We are three representations of Terre des hommes organisation in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine which have joined their efforts to implement a project addressing the phenomenon of gender-based violence among and against children in school.
Terre des hommes Foundation, based in Lausanne (Switzerland), is currently the leading Swiss organization for the protection of the children’s rights. Through our health, protection, and emergency response programmes, we provide assistance to more than 3 million children and their families in more than 45 countries each year.
Terre des hommes (Tdh) was established in 1960 by the French-Swiss pharmacist Edmond Kaiser who was shaken by the plight of children affected by the Algerian war and wished to help them. The name of the foundation was inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1939 book “Terre des hommes”, in English – “Land of People”. This is a collection of essays in which the writer talked about: each child’s potential to develop a talent, if he/she is protected and loved, everyone’s responsibility to create a better world and the need for cooperation.
Following the Lausanne model, other Terre des hommes entities were set up since 1966 in Switzerland, France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, among others. All together joined to establish the Terre des Hommes International Federation (TDHIF). The Federation ensures that the voices of member organizations are heard at the international and the European level and represents them to the United Nations.
